Preparations
We started our travel plans and knew at the outset that it would be difficult to find hotel or bed and breakfast rooms on the late date of April 16, less than two months before travel. Using the IHA.com website, I emailed several B&Bs starting at distances of 35 miles away from Carentan and then moving closer. I got two "sorry" replies and no replies to my other inquiries. However, the day before, I had asked a kind B&B proprietor if he knew anyone had a place they could let us have for the week, and a couple of days later came an email with the attached photos. This was my first attempt at finding some place. As dad says, he slept in slit trenches in Normandy and this looked just fine for him. I have to agree...
