Michael J. Young, son of Francis A. Young, donated this set of CY 1181 TT US Army field telephone sets. During WWII Francis Young was sent to John Hopkins Applied Physics Lab in Silver Spring Maryland where they worked on developing the Top Secret Proximity Fuse, AKA VT Fuse. He later served 2 tours in Korea, and retired in 1962 with 21 years of service. The phones weigh 10 lbs each. There is a small crank that you turn to activate the ringing circuit. These are the phones we used in the 83rd Signal Co to check field telephone lines. They will be kept on display at the WWII Museum in Atterbury, Indiana, home of the 83rd Infantry Division. Our thanks to Mike Young (mike@joesautobody.com) for this historic relic.
